Notes from Places, James Boulton

Last night we celebrated the opening of “Notes from Places”, a show of drawings, collages, sculptures, and video by James Boulton. Much of the work on display was created here at the Project Lodge during his 5 day residency. Below are some pictures from his stay, as well as from the opening. More information on J. Bo can be found at www.jamesboulton.com Also below is the press release description of the art exhibit. (On view Mon – Fri, 11 – 5pm until July 9th)

“At project lodge in June James Boulton presents Notes from Places a body of
works on paper and animated video work based on automatic drawing and
collage.

This body of work juxtaposes mark making
with photography and the illusion of the captured moment.
Scribbles and gutteral gestures coexist with snapshots
from the artist’s past.  The conflict between the
two gestures is not resolved, rather both are presented as
evidence of  existence.

In the drawings he scatalogically and grittly uses the surface of the paper to
support transitive moments that are situational as much as they are imagistic,
while in the video work he interrogates the difference  between image and
moving image, drawing and video.

LA Painter James Boulton will present paintings and collages.”
